For ease of reference and to avoid placing those "New!!" tags, (which I would inevitably forget to remove) I'm going to document new additions to my pages here. Currently, I anticipate adding to or modifying something on my pages every day or two.

Historic California US Highways

Created:  Circa March, 1996.

Updates:

  • September 17: At long last started adding more. Look out for the Route 66 Colorado River and Needles page. Yes, I know I said I wouldn't cover Route 66 in too much detail, but I do want to get areas of interest that I haven't seen covered on other sites.
  • July 19: The US 101 photo album for South Orange County is now officially up. It will replicate and partially replace my existing US 101 Photo Gallery (South).  This is to break down each page into a more manageable size. I'm also cleaning up various broken hyperlinks.
  • July 13: Added photos and text to the I-5/US 101 San Clemente Photo Gallery; cleaned up pictures on the US 91 / US 395 Cajon Pass Photo Album.
  • July 8: Revamped the US 91/SR-18 Santa Ana Canyon Photo Album and added more photographs.
  • July 6: Added photographs of old alignments of US 101 in the Conejo Valley Photo Album.
  • June 21: Adding historical pictures to the US 99 Ridge Route and Grapevine Photo Galleries.
  • June 5: Found an authentic looking highway sign font. Changed font for front page and miscellaneous other logos.
  • April 6: Continued adding maps to the pages mentioned for April 4.
  • April 4: Added maps to the US 99 tours for the Ridge Route Guide and the Grapevine (Tejon Summit) Side Trip. Also added north symbols for the maps.
  • April 2: I'm continuing to add maps to my tours - look for new ones on my US 99 Coachella Valley side trip. I've also done more work on getting all of my highways pages in sync - mostly glitter work, but necessary to give the site a consistent look and feel.
  • March 26: I've added pilot maps to my tour guides to help identify the locations of old highways. So far I've added them to the US 80, Laguna Mtns. West and US 99, Inland Empire side trips.
  • March 21: Revised US 80 and US 99 Guides. I'm almost done with splitting the guides into more manageable sizes (each former page is now 4 -5 pages.) This means more pages to navigate, but I'm making them easy to use as I'm including drop down menus on the left side (see previous update.) Have a look at the beginning pages for the US 80 and US 99 guides. Side note: I finally got FrontPage 98 to work through my Proxy Server and should have more frequent updates. &#@% Microsoft!!
  • March 9:  At long last I've made more revisions! I'm working on getting my current material, especially the travelogues into a consistent format. Have a look at my Finding US 80 page for the drop-down Java menus which offer easy access to my US 80 travelogues. Note that I've split them up; I'm also working on getting some new photos, so please bear with me.
  • February 16: Further modified the main page, adding a contemporary photograph to complement the existing photo. Also started work on cleaning up and completing the History Page - fixed the link to my US 51 graphic.
  • February 14: Changed a lot of the text on the main page. This site was also recently granted the Alsirat Web Book Award.
  • February 13: Believe it or not, there is finally an introductory page for US 50! Yes, it needs some work, but it's there.
  • February 2: Finally got around to updating the picture on the US 97 page. It's not really the best, but it is authentic and I was there. Next time I go up, I'll get a better one.
  • February 1: Added a bunch of stuff. For US 99 - split the travelogue for the Tehachapis Mountains into two sections, The Ridge Route and Grapevine; added a photo album pages for US 99/60/70 covering Indio to San Bernardino and San Bernardino to Los Angeles. Also added a new page for the I-5/US 101 freeway in San Clemente.
  • January 26: Added photographs showing the 1955 widening of US 91 and 395 over Cajon Summit in the US 395 Inland Empire and Cajon Pass page.
  • January 24: New US 99 photo album for San Bernardino to Los Angeles and Indio to San Bernardino.
  • January 21: Added additional "photo album" pages for US 101 through the Simi Valley. Updated the "photo album" pages for US 395 in Riverside County and US 99 Santa Clarita to Grapevine page.
  • January 18:  Finally added content to my About the US Highways Page. It details my interest in roads and why I created the page as well as giving the more technical details of how I authored it. Also added pages for the US 80 "photo album" covering Mountain Spring and Imperial County.
  • January 17:  Modified my Finding US 91 page, adding experimental navigation buttons in the left margin. If they go over well, I'll be adding them to my other pages. Please contact me if you have any comments. It would be much appreciated
  • January 8:  Created new link buttons for the left hand margins in my page. This should address issues with several fonts not contrasting well with the margins. It will take a while to update all the pages. Also refurbished the California Highways in 1928 page.
  • January 1, 1998:  Updated links to the reorganized site. Also completed forwarding pages from the CTS site directing readers to the new domain location.

Roads and Highways Page

Created:  October, 1995

Updates:

  • January 7: Am in the process of adding my new State Highways page. This will contain details of selected state routes. So far, Highway 252 in San Diego has been added.
  • January 2: Created new navigation buttons which will also appear on the other highways pages. There are two different sets of buttons: ones designed to look like guide signs and the others are highway shields with text. These should lend consistency to my pages.
  • January 1, 1998:  Placed the "Roads and Highways" pages in a separate directory under "gbcnet.com." Split the links page from the introduction. Added new background.
